Existing CommServe LivSync environments that use a virtual (or floating) name to perform CommServe failovers can be re-purposed to use the built-in ability to use multiple CommServe hostnames for CommServe disaster recovery.
Before You Begin
The sCSINTERFACELIST additional setting is required to remove the floating CommServe name. Verify that this additional setting is available in the CommCell environment, or create this additional setting if it is not available. For more information on viewing or creating this additional setting, see Configuring Multiple CommServe Hostnames for Disaster Recovery.
Procedure
-
Reinstall the standby CommServe host using the physical hostname associated with the server.
Note
Isolate the standby node from reaching the production CommServe host during uninstallation.
-
Schedule a CommServe failover from the currently active to the newly installed passive node. (If possible, you can also perform an immediate failover.)
-
After a successful failover, reinstall the original production CommServe host using the physical hostname associated with the server.
Note
If the virtual name is still pointing to the production CommServe, isolate this node from reaching the production CommServe host during the uninstallation.
-
OPTIONAL: If some of your applications/servers require a virtual (or floating) name for planned failovers, then perform the following steps:
-
Setup the necessary DNS entries to setup the virtual name. Initially, create the DNS entry with the IP address associated with production CommServe host.
For more information on creating a DNS record, refer to one of the following procedures appropriate to your environment:
-
Create a client group and include the clients associated the applications/servers that require a virtual CommServe name.
-
To this client group, add the following additional setting:
Name: sCSINTERFACELIST
Type: String
Value: Comma separated list of CommServe interfaces (on both production and standby nodes) for clients to connect to, without relying on DNS.
For more information about adding additional settings from the CommCell Console, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.
-
During a failover, you must manually update this DNS entry with the IP address of the standby CommServe host.
For more information on updating DNS records, refer to one of the following procedures appropriate to your environment:
