Restore Troubleshooting - IBM i Agent

The following section provides information on some of the troubleshooting scenarios related to restore:

Restore Failures

Some of the files included in the user-defined subclient are not restored.

You may be performing the restore of user-defined subclient along with the restore of default subclient.

When you are recovering data backed up by the default subclient, you cannot recover the data backed up by a user-defined subclient.

Browse from default subclient displays No Backup at Time error

Ensure that you do not include the root directory (/) as the subclient content.

When performing point-in-time restore from the default subclient, include the data/folders under the root directory as the subclient content.

Troubleshoot Performance Issues

If you are experiencing performance issues during restore, you can troubleshoot them by enabling logging of performance details in the log files on the access node and the IBM i Agent client. These performance counters contain information that help in resolving the performance related issues during restores.

IBM i Agent Client Performance Counters

The performance counters printed in the IBM i Agent client log files include:

File Write

Disk data write for IFS file system.

QanePipe Write

Disk data write for QSYS library.

Data Receive

Network transfer speed.

QaneCall

Time spent in Qane call.

Header Receive

Wait time for next file header.

mkParent

Time spent to check and create parent folders.

Set file attr

Time spent while setting file attributes.

Set file ext.attr

Time spent while setting advanced file attributes.

Thread Wait

Time spent on waiting a Qane thread completion.

Access Node Performance Counters

The performance counters printed in the access node log files include:

FileRead

Average time spent in system call to read the file.

CheckFileHole

Average time spent to verify if buffer read from the disk is a hole.

Close File

Average time spent in system call to close the file.

AllocBuffer

Average time spent waiting for the network buffer.

WriteBuffer

Average time spent in sending the network buffer to the network.

Disk Read

Average speed of reading from the disk.

Write

Average speed of writing to the network.
