Restoring Only the Access Control List

An access control list (ACL) is a list of permissions attached to a SharePoint object. An ACL specifies which users or system processes are granted access to SharePoint objects and what operations are allowed on those SharePoint objects.

ACL information refers to the unique permissions that were set for the SharePoint objects. ACL information is backed up with document full backups. When you restore documents, ACLs are restored by default.

Optionally, you can restore only the ACLs and then apply them to an existing document in the destination. The restore job restores only the ACL information from a selected container, such as a library or a list, and not from the documents or the folders inside a library or a list. To support only ACL restores, the selected container should have inherited permissions from its parent.

Before You Begin

You must have a backup operation run successfully with the ACLs configured subclient.
