Restoring Workflow Definitions and Alerts

In Office 365, you can perform both in-place restore operation and out-of-place restore operation. To perform an in-place restore operation, you can restore workflow definitions and alerts to the same path on the same client from where they were backed up. To perform an out-of-place restore operation, you can restore workflow definitions and alerts to a different path from where they were backed up.

The workflows and templates that can be restored are listed below:

  • SharePoint Built-in Workflow with the following 2010 and 2013 templates:

    • Three-state

    • Disposition Approval

    • Approval - SharePoint 2010

    • Collect Feedback - SharePoint 2010

    • Collect Signatures - SharePoint 2010

    • Publishing Approval

  • SharePoint Designer Workflow

  • You cannot restore Nintex Workflow definitions.

  • SharePoint 2010 Workflow is retired and no longer supported for backup and restore operations.

  • SharePoint 2013 Workflow will be retired on April 2, 2026 and Commvault will no longer provide support after this date. For more information, go to SharePoint 2013 workflow retirement on the Microsoft documentation website.
