Scheduling Platform Release Upgrades on the Production CommServe Host

Platform release upgrades can be scheduled on the production CommServe host using the Standby-Recovery upgrade workflow. When initiated, the workflow will automatically generate an email approval request to an authorized user in the CommServe. Once the scheduled time is approved, the updates will be installed on the production CommServe host at the scheduled time with minimal down time.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Workflows.

  2. Download the workflow Standby-Recovery upgrade workflow from the Commvault Store. For more information, see Download Workflows from Commvault Store.

  3. Right-click the workflow, and click All Tasks > Deploy to deploy the workflow.

  4. Right-click the workflow and click Properties.

    The Standby-Recovery upgrade workflow Properties dialog box appears.

  5. Set the following options from the Configuration tab,

    1. From the Select user(s) whose approval required for downtime list, select the name of the CommCell user requesting the schedule.

    2. In the Provide CC emailID to send status email box, provide the email addresses associated with the user approving the schedule.

    3. Enable the Download updates to be installed before downtime option. (If you clear this option, make sure that the feature release is downloaded and available in the CommServe ahead of the scheduled time.)

    4. Enable the Update status before and after the operation option, to generate alerts before and after the operation.

    5. Click OK.

  6. Right-click workflow, and then click All Tasks > Execute to run the workflow.

    The Standby-Recovery upgrade workflow Options dialog box appears.

  7. Select the necessary options to run the workflow and click OK.

    The Scheduler Window dialog box appears.

  8. From the Select start time of downtime window list, set a date and time to run the workflow.

  9. From the Select a configured download schedule list, select the name of a pre-defined scheduled for downloading platform releases.

  10. Click OK.

Result

The workflow will generate an email to the email ID associated with the user approving the schedule. (this user is specified in step 5b.) The email includes a button to APPROVE or DENY the schedule. Once approved, the platform release will be installed in the scheduled time.
