Setting Up Recall Throttling Using Stub Recovery Parameters

You can set up recall throttling using the stub recovery parameters for stub recall operations. With Recall throttling, you can control the number of stub recall operations at a given time limit.

You must set up the Recall Throttling feature either on the client computer or on the recall proxy computer.

File server or computer

Which computer to perform the stub recovery configuration on

Hitachi NAS (VSP One File), NetApp, and network share file servers

The recall proxy computer that has the File System Agent installed on it

Celerra file servers

The recall proxy computer where you installed the Web Server

Windows and UNIX computers

The client computer

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System.

  2. Right click the File System, and click Properties.

The File System Properties dialog box appears.

  3. Select the Stub Recovery Parameters check box.

  4. Enter values for the following controls:

    Note

Carefully read the description of each control before you enter a value:

    • Maximum Stub Recovery

Enter the maximum number of stubs that you want to recover in the time window that is specified in the Time between recall to count as successive in seconds box. You can enter any value greater than 0.

    • Time between recall to count as successive in seconds

Enter the time in seconds to perform the maximum number of recalls that is specified in the Maximum Stub Recovery box. When this time window is reached, the stub recalls that can occur before the next time window starts will fail.

      Note

The Time between recall to count as successive in seconds is a rolling time period.

    • Time to wait after maximum successive recalls limit is reached in seconds

Enter the number of seconds that the software must wait before a new stub recovery operation can begin after the maximum number of files have been recalled in the time window that you specified in the Time between recall to count as successive in seconds box.

  5. Click OK.

Example

You have 100 stubs that must be recalled. You entered the following values:

  • Maximum Stub Recovery : 30

  • Time between recall to count as successive in seconds: 60

  • Time to wait after maximum successive recalls limit is reached in seconds: 15

A stub recall operation runs for 60 seconds and recalls 30 files. You must wait for 15 seconds for the next successful recall operation. After a 15 second wait, a new stub recall operation runs for 60 seconds and recalls 30 files.
