Transitioning from the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent to the Exchange Mailbox Agent

If you archived user mailboxes using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent, you can transition your data protection operations to the Exchange Mailbox Agent. After you transition to the Exchange Mailbox Agent, messages that you archived using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent coexist with the content that is archived using the Exchange Mailbox Agent.

Important

In the case of transitioning from the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent to the Exchange Mailbox Agent, you stop using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent and start using the Exchange Mailbox Agent. You do not import the content that was archived using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent.

Considerations

Consider the following before you stop using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent and start using the Exchange Mailbox Agent:

  • You cannot protect stubs using the Exchange Mailbox Agent, but you can track the movement of stubs by enabling Track stub movement in the Exchange archiving policy.

  • You can recall stubs that were created using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent using version 11 of the Outlook Add-In.

Procedure

  1. Install the Exchange package, and then add and configure the Exchange Mailbox Agent.

  2. Create the Exchange Policies.

  3. Deconfigure the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent.

  4. Install the latest package of the version 11 Outlook Add-In.

  5. If you use Outlook Web App (OWA) in Exchange Server 2013 or later, and you do not have a universal recall link, configure the Quick Look button so that your end users can access stubbed messages.

After You Stop Using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent

After you stop using the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent, keep the deconfigured Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent and its associated client until the retention time for the archived messages is met.

Note

You can perform recovery operations only with the deconfigured agent.
