VTL Fibre Channel Port Configuration – Mode

Fibre Channel (FC) port configuration defaults to dual mode – Initiator and Target. This dual mode helps facilitate initial zoning setup.

Note

You must zone each FC port for each device type use - disk only or tape only.

Before you use FC port, set to proper use mode as outlined in the following table.

VTL 2.0 Port Mode MediaAgent Host/Array/Filer FC Port
Target Initiator
  • Apply on MediaAgent host to detect and use VTL 2.0 tape devices.
  • By default, FC OS drivers load in Initiator mode.
Initiator Target
VTL 2.0 uses array or filer providing a FC LUN as disk storage.
Target Initiator, when NDMP filer or array uses VTL 2.0 emulated tape devices.
Note:
  • If NDMP filer is set in Initiator mode, you must perform filer reboot to properly set the mode.
  • In cases where you set NDMP filer as Target and cannot change to Initiator mode, you must set VTL 2.0 side as Target.
