Add a NAS File Server

Add the NAS file server that you want to back up.

You can back up both Common Internet File System (CIFS) shares and Network File System (NFS) exports.

Note

  • For NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon, or Huawei vendors, you must add array information while creating NAS client to use the Changelist scan/Snapdiff scan features.

  • For NetApp C-mode, to add the CIFS/NFS protocol for an existing de-configured NAS client that is created when C-mode array is added using array management, update the default subclient content with the correct CIFS/NFS interface if the management IP and CIFS/NFS interface IPs differ.

Start the Configuration Wizard

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.

    The file servers Overview page appears.

  2. On the Files tab, in the upper-right area of the page, click Add server.

    The Configure File Server page appears.

  3. Select NAS.

  4. Click Next.

    The Server Configuration page of the Add NAS Server configuration wizard appears.

Server Configuration

  1. In the Name box, enter a name for the NAS server.

  2. From the Vendor type list, select any vendor. If you want to use the NAS server without IntelliSnap or the vendor is not listed, select Generic.

    • For NetApp, enter the following information:

      1. In the NetApp management interface box, enter the host name of the NetApp cluster or SVM.

        Note

        For the NetApp C-Mode system, use individual Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) clients for CIFS / NFS management. Do not use NetApp cluster for CIFS /NFS snapshot management.

        2. From the Credential list, select existing credentials or create new credentials.

        Steps to add new credentials

        To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

        1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

        2. In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

        3. In the Password box, enter the password.

        4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

        5. Click Save.

    • For Dell EMC Isilon, enter the following information:

      1. In the Dell EMC Isilon cluster box, enter the external IP address or the host name of any node in the Isilon cluster.

      2. From the Credential list, select existing credentials or create new credentials.

        Steps to add new credentials

        To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

        1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

        2. In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

        3. In the Password box, enter the password.

        4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

        5. Click Save.

    • For Huawei, enter the following information:

      1. In the Serial number box, enter the serial number (SN) of the Huawei storage system.

      2. In the Console interface box, enter the management IP address of the Huawei array.

      3. From the Credential list, select existing credentials or create new credentials.

        Steps to add new credentials

        To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

        1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

        2. In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

        3. In the Password box, enter the password.

        4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

        5. Click Save.

  3. In the Host name box, enter a host name or fully qualified domain name for the NAS server. This option does not apply to NetApp and Dell EMC Isilon vendors.

  4. Click Next.

    The Plan page of the configuration wizard appears.

Plan

  1. From the Plan list, select an existing backup plan or create a new backup plan.

    Steps to create a new backup plan

    1. Click the add button add/plus button - gray - no border.

      The Create backup plan dialog box appears.

    2. In the Plan name, enter a name for the backup plan.

    3. From the Storage list, select the storage to use for the backups.

    4. For the backup plan settings, select pre-defined settings or create custom settings:

      • To select pre-defined settings, under Retention rules, select one of the following:

        • Select Standard retention to retain the incremental backups for 1 month.

      • To create custom settings, move the Custom plan toggle key to the right, and then specify the following:

        • For Retention, specify the amount of time to retain the backup jobs.

        • For Backups run every, specify how often to run backups.

    5. Click Done.

  2. Click Next.

    The Backup Content page of the configuration wizard appears.

Backup Content

  1. Under Network share configuration, specify how you want to back up the file server:

    • To back up CIFS shares, move the CIFS toggle key to the right.

    • To back up NFS exports, move the NFS toggle key to the right.

CIFS

  1. From the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes to use for the file server. You can back up CIFS shares of the NAS file server using Windows as well as Linux access nodes.

    Note

    • The Linux access nodes that are chosen to backup CIFS shares must be on Service Pack 36.

    • For streaming, CIFS backup using Linux access nodes is supported only with NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale, NutanixFiles, Qumulo, and Generic vendor types. For other vendors, ensure that a Windows access node is selected.

    • Starting with Commvault Innovation Release 11.42.60, IntelliSnap backups of CIFS shares using Linux access nodes is supported for Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale and NetApp.

    • By default, only the access nodes with both FS and MA packages are displayed.

    • If a client group is selected as an access node, ensure that each client in the group has connectivity to the array.

  2. From the CIFS Credentials list, select existing credentials or create new credentials to access the NAS server.

    Steps to add new credentials

    To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

    1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

    2. In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

    3. In the Password box, enter the password.

    4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

    5. Click Save.

  3. By default, all CIFS share will be selected for backup. To change the content that is to be backed up, do the following:

    Note

    The CIFS credentials must be added to change the backup content.

    1. Under Backup content, move the All CIFS shares toggle to the left, and then specify the content to back up.

    2. In the Content area, click Add, and then choose one of the following methods:

    3. Browse: Select items from the file system.

    4. Custom path: Enter one or more paths manually.

  4. In the Exclusions area, click Add, and then use Browse or Custom path to specify items to exclude.

  5. To create exceptions, enable Define exceptions, click Add, and then use Browse or Custom path to specify items to exempt from the exclusions.

    Browse

    1. Click Browse.

    2. Enter the Interface path.

    3. Select an access node, and then click Browse.

    4. Select the required items, and then click Save.

    Custom path

    1. Enter a path or filter pattern in the Enter custom path field.

    2. Click the add button.

  6. From the Include global exclusions list, select one of the following:

    • Off: Applies only subclient exclusions. This option overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients setting.

    • On: Applies both global filters and subclient exclusions. This option overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients setting.

    • Use cell level policy: Applies global filters only if Use Global Filters on All Subclients is enabled in Global Filters.

  7. To verify the connection between the array and access node, click Test connection. This option applies only to NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon, and Huawei.

NFS

  1. To specify the access nodes to use for the file server, from the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes.

    Note

    • By default, only the access nodes with both FS and MA packages are displayed.

    • If a client group is selected as an access node, ensure that each client in the group has connectivity to the array.

  2. By default, all NFS exports will be selected for backup. To change the content that is to be backed up, do the following:

    1. Under Backup content, move the All NFS exports toggle to the left, and then specify the content to back up.

      For Amazon EFS shares, the subclient content can either be a mounted path or auto-mount format. For mounted path content, enter the same path where you mounted the Amazon EFS share on the Linux computer.

    2. In the Content area, click Add, and then choose one of the following methods:

    3. Browse: Select items from the file system.

    4. Custom path: Enter one or more paths manually.

  3. In the Exclusions area, click Add, and then use Browse or Custom path to specify items to exclude.

  4. To create exceptions, enable Define exceptions, click Add, and then use Browse or Custom path to specify items to exempt from the exclusions.

    Browse

    1. Click Browse.

    2. Enter the Interface path.

    3. Select an access node, and then click Browse.

    4. Select the required items, and then click Save.

    Custom path

    1. Enter a path or filter pattern in the Enter custom path field.

    2. Click the add button.

  5. From the Include global exclusions list, select one of the following:

    • Off: Applies only subclient exclusions. This option overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients setting.

    • On: Applies both global filters and subclient exclusions. This option overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients setting.

    • Use cell level policy: Applies global filters only if Use Global Filters on All Subclients is enabled in Global Filters.

  6. To verify the connection between the array and access node, click Test connection. This option applies only to NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon, and Huawei.

  7. Click Add.
