Backing Up a Sybase Database Group

You can backup Sybase database groups on demand.

You can perform a full backup operation, a transaction log backup operation, or an incremental backup operation.

Note

Indexing v2 support is enabled by default for snapshot backups. The existing snapshot configurations continue to use indexing v1 unless you explicitly enable indexing v2.

Before You Begin

IntelliSnap backup operations do not support the backup of database encryption keys.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. On the Instances tab, click the instance that contains the database group that you want to back up.

    The instance page appears.

  3. On the Database groups tab, in the row for the database group to back up, click the Action button action_button, and then click Backup. Alternatively, click the database group you want to back up, and click Backup in the upper-right of the page.

The Backup options dialog box appears.

  4. Under Backup level, select the type of backup that you want to perform:

    1. To perform a full backup operation, select Full.

    2. To perform a transaction log backup operation, select Transaction log, and then specify the following:

    3. To back up the complete transaction logs of a damaged database, select the Do not truncate log check box.

    4. To skip full backup operations for new databases that are discovered during the log backup operation, select the Skip full for newly added databases after log backup check box.

By default, when the software discovers new databases during a log backup operation, it performs a full backup for the new databases. Selecting this check box skips the full backup for the new databases.

  5. To back up the data that changed after the most recent full backup, select Cumulative Incremental.

  6. Click Submit.
