Backing Up a Sybase Database Instance in HADR

You can backup Sybase database instance on demand or schedule in the backup plan.

You can perform the following backup operations:

  • Full backup

  • Transaction log

  • Cumulative incremental

Note

The backup is always performed on the primary instance node. In case the primary instance node is not accessible during the backup, the backup job goes to the pending state. When the job resumes, the job is converted to the full job and the backup is performed on a discovered primary instance node.

Before You Begin

IntelliSnap backup operations do not support the backup of database encryption keys.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. Go to the Instances tab.

  3. In the row for the database instance that you want to back up, click the Action button action_button, and then click Backup. Alternatively, click the instance you want to backup and select Backup from the top right of the page.

The Backup options dialog box appears.

  4. Under Backup level, select the type of backup that you want to perform:

    1. To perform a full backup operation, select Full.

    2. To perform a transaction log backup operation, select Transaction log, and then specify the following:

      1. To back up the complete transaction logs of a damaged database, select the Do not truncate log check box.

      2. To skip full backup operations for new databases that are discovered during the log backup operation, select the Skip full for newly added databases after log backup check box.

By default, when the software discovers new databases during a log backup operation, it performs a full backup for the new databases. Selecting this check box skips the full backup for new databases.

  5. To back up the data that changed after the most recent full backup, select Cumulative Incremental.

  6. Click Submit.
