Behavior of Serverless Log Backups

Transaction logs are dumped to backup storage at the configured interval.

Logs are committed to the CommServer at the configured interval.

Log backups are included in SLA calculations
-
Log jobs are created during the commit phase, not during the dump phase
Before You Begin

Review supported configurations and feature details. For more information, see Configurations for RPO.

Verify that you have the required permissions to create or modify plans in the Command Center.
Note
Serverless Log Backups are enabled by default for newly created plans. For plans created before this release, you must manually enable the feature.
Procedure

Log in to the Commvault Command Center.

From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Plans.

Do one of the following:
If you want to create a new plan, do the following:

From the Create plan list, select Backup > Create.
The Create backup plan page appears.

In the Plan name box, enter the backup plan name.

Under Configure backups section, select the Storage and specify the Frequency of backup.

Under Configure snapshot, specify the Frequency at which snapshots are taken.

Click Save.

Go to the Schedule policies tab.

In the Schedule tile, click the edit icon associated with Transaction log for databases.
The Edit transaction log schedule dialog box appears.

Set Runs every to define how frequently logs are dumped to media.

The Enable automatic disk utilization rules toggle is enabled by default.

You can specify the Disk space for transaction logs and Log file count allowed for backup.

For Serverless log backup, specify Commit every to define how frequently logs are committed to the Control Plane/CommServe storage, where they are registered as backup jobs.
If you want to enable the Serverless log backup for the existing plan, do the following:

Click the plan.
The plan Configuration page appears.

Go to the Schedule policies tab.

In the Schedule tile, click the edit icon associated with Transaction log for databases.
The Edit transaction log schedule dialog box appears.

Set Runs every to define how frequently logs are dumped to media.

You can specify the Disk space for transaction logs and Log file count allowed for backup.

Move the Serverless log backup toggle to right.

Specify Commit every to define how frequently logs are committed to the Control Plane/CommServe storage, where they are registered as backup jobs.

Click Save.
