Configuring Automatic Discovery of PostgreSQL Instances

Automatic discovery of instances is enabled after the client installation. The automatic discovery ensures that the newly added PostgreSQL instances are regularly accounted for in backup operations.

When you discover PostgreSQL instances, the newly discovered instances are assigned a plan as follows:

  • If the default subclient of the file system has a plan, then the newly discovered instances inherit that plan.

  • If the default subclient of the file system has no plan, then you must set a plan for the newly discovered instances.

After an instance is discovered, you need to update the server credentials before running a backup.

Note

  • By default, PostgreSQL instances are automatically discovered every 24 hours. Instances are also automatically discovered when the Communications Service (GxCVD) is restarted (for example, after a computer reboot).

  • You cannot automatically discover PostgreSQL instances on Solaris and AIX. You also cannot discover the postgresql.conf file if it is outside the data directory.
