Use the Software Encryption settings to define the default software encryption behavior for new storage pools. These settings determine whether backup data is encrypted, the encryption algorithm that is used, the key management method, and whether you can modify the encryption configuration after it is applied.
Software encryption encrypts backup data before it is written to storage.
Before You Begin
- Verify that you have administrative permissions.
- Determine the encryption algorithm and key management method that you want to use.
- If you plan to use an external key management server, ensure that it is configured and accessible.
Procedure
- From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Settings > Global > Encryption.
- In the Software Encryption section, configure the following settings:
- Enable encryption: Enables software encryption for new storage pools.
- Cipher: Specifies the encryption algorithm used to encrypt backup data.
- Key management server: Specifies the key management server that stores and manages encryption keys.
- Prevent changes to software encryption settings: Prevents users from modifying software encryption settings after they are configured for a storage pool.
Result
The configured software encryption settings are used as the default settings for new storage pools.
