Enable or disable auto-scaled access nodes for an existing client at the protocol level or for individual subclients.
Important
-
Auto-scaling supports streaming backups. Pre- and post-backup scripts are not supported.
-
When you enable auto-scaling for a client, the first job that runs is a Reconcile Backup job. The Reconcile Backup job validates configuration and aligns backup metadata before standard backup operations continue.
Enable auto-scaling for a backup protocol
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.
-
Go to the Files tab, and then click the file server.
-
Go to the Protocols tile, and then click CIFS or NFS.
-
Go to the protocol Configuration tab.
-
In the Access nodes tile, click Edit.
-
Click Use Auto Scale.
-
From the Credential list, select the credential that contains the AWS STS AssumeRole ARN.
-
Click Submit.
-
Click Yes to overwrite the backup access node configuation for all subclients associated with the protocol and apply auto-scaling.
Note
If a scale config already exists for the selected credential, the system reuses it; otherwise the system creates a scale config automatically for the credential. When a scale configuration is active, the UI disables selection of permanent access nodes for that protocol.
Enable auto-scaling for a single subclient
Note
If the protocol uses a permanent access node, enabling auto-scaling at the subclient-level overwrites the configuration for the selected subclient. Use Overwrite access nodes on subclients at the protocol level to change every subclient consistently.
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.
-
Go to the Files tab, and then click the file server.
-
Go to the Protocols tile, and then click CIFS or NFS.
-
On the Subclients tab, click a subclient.
-
Go to the subclient Configuration tab.
-
On the Access nodes tile, click Edit.
-
Click Use Auto Scale.
-
From the Credential list, select the credential that contains the AWS STS AssumeRole ARN.
-
Click Submit.
Disable auto-scaling to use permanent access nodes
Note
Disabling auto-scaling does not delete the scale config. The scale config remains available if you re-enable auto-scaling for the credential later.
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.
-
Go to the Files tab, and then click the file server.
-
Go to the Protocols tile, and then click CIFS or NFS.
-
Go to the protocol Configuration tab.
To disable auto-scaling for a subclient, click the subclient and go to the subclient Configuration tab.
-
On the Access nodes tile, click Edit.
-
From the Acces nodes list, deselct the scale configuration.
-
Select the permanent access nodes that you want to use, and then click Save.
