Managing VM Group Content for Oracle VM

For an existing VM group, you can add virtual machines or modify the content selections.

Before You Begin

To select VMs based on views or automatic discovery rules, see "Views and Rule Options" (below).

Go to the VM Group

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. On the VM groups tab, click the VM group.

    The VM group page appears.

Edit Content

  1. On the Content tab, in the Content area, click the edit button edit button outline grey/gray pencil.

    The Manage content dialog box appears.

  2. To modify virtual machine credentials for application-aware backups, click action_button in the Actions column of the row for the VM, and then select Edit Credentials.

  3. To remove a virtual machine, click action_button in the Actions column of the row for the VM and select Remove.

  4. To add VM group content, click Add, and then select Content.

    The Add content dialog box appears.

  5. From the Browse and select VMs list, select a browse method and then expand the tree below the list to select the content for the VM group, or to clear previous selections.

    You can select a view from the list to control the browse display.

  6. Click Save after selecting VMs or other objects.

  7. To discover virtual machines automatically:

    1. Click Add, and then select Rule.

      The Add rule dialog box appears.

    2. For Match rule, select any or all.

    3. From the list, select the type of rule to create.

    4. From the middle list, select Equals, Contains, Does not contain, Does not equal, Ends with, or Starts with.

    5. Enter a value for the rule you are creating.

    6. Click Save.

  8. To edit a rule, click action_button in the Actions column of the row for the VM and select Edit rule.

  9. Click Preview to see a list of the virtual machines that will be backed up.

  10. Click Save.

Views and Rule Options

When you define content or filters for a VM group, you can change the view and select specific entities, or define rules to automatically select VMs that meet specific criteria.

Views

When you browse to select VMs for VM group content or filters, you can select a browse method for the Browse and select VMs list, and then expand the tree below the list to select the content for the VM group, or to clear previous selections.

You can select one of the following options from the list to control the browse display:

  • Servers and VMs: Select server pools, VM pools, servers, or virtual machines.

  • Repositories: Select storage repositories.

Rules

You can define rules to discover virtual machines automatically.

When you add a rule, from the Select rule for list, choose one of the following rules and then, from the Which matches with list, select Equals, Contains, Starts with, or Ends with:

  • Repository: In the Name box, type the name of a repository.

  • Virtual machine name/pattern: In the Name box, type the display name of the virtual machine or a pattern using wildcards (for example, Test* to identify VMs for which the VM name begins with "Test").

  • Server: In the Name box, type the name of a server.

  • Server folder: In the Name box, type the name of a server folder.

  • Server pool: In the Name box, type the name of a server pool.

  • Server pool folder: In the Name box, type the name of a server pool folder.

  • Virtual machine folder: In the Name box, type the name of a virtual machine folder.

View Virtual Machines

The Virtual machines tab displays the VMs associated with this VM group.
