Manually Deploying an Azure VM After a Restore Fails

When a restore of an Azure VM fails during the deployment phase, the disks are retained. You can use the retained disks to manually deploy the VM in the Azure portal.

Procedure

If the job status is "Completed with Errors" and the VM status is "Partial success", the Failure reason column for the VM displays "Failed to deploy VM with reason".

You can manually deploy the VM in the Azure portal.

  1. Go to the specific job. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Jobs > Job history.

    The Job history page appears.

  2. Click the failed restore job.

The Job details page appears. The Failure reason column includes the information for the failed VM deployment.

  3. On the VM list tab, click the action button action_button in the upper-right corner of the page, and then click View failed items.

The Failed items list appears. The information includes disk and LUN information.

  4. From the Azure portal, you can search with a tag and restore the job ID value.

For more information, see Create a VM from a specialized disk by using PowerShell.

    1. On the All Resources page, click Add filter.

    2. Search for the CV-CreatedByJobID tag and the ID value of the failed job. For example, you might search for CV-CreatedByJobID : 12311.

A list of the VM disks appears.

    3. To create a new VM and attach the existing disks, open the OS disk, and then click Create VM.

The Create a Virtual Machine page appears.

    4. On the Disk tab, enter the details, and then click the Attach an existing disk link.

    5. Select the retained data disks and attach it to the virtual machine on the deployment screen.
