Perfom 1-Touch Recovery of AIX Computers

AIX 1-Touch Recovery enables rapid, automated bare-metal restore of AIX clients through Command Center and a configured NIM server. This process restores the operating system, volume groups, and optionally user data, with minimal manual intervention.

Prerequisites

  • The AIX client must have completed at least one 1-Touch backup.

  • NIM server must be registered and reachable, with the 1-Touch package installed.

  • TFTP directory must be configured and accessible.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.

  2. On the Files tab, click the AIX client.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the client details page, click the action button action_button, and then click 1-Touch recovery.

  4. Select the recovery job from the list all eligible 1-Touch backup jobs for the client. You can select only one job at a time.

  5. Configure volume group recovery and then, click Next.

    • By default, Recreate all volume groups is selected. This recreate all the volume groups during the OS recovery process.

    • Select the Import existing volume groups check box to import existing volume groups.

    • Select Recover only root volume group if you intend to restore only root volume group data.

  6. Select Do not restore data other than root volume group to restore only OS-related data and skip data under volume groups other than root Volume Group.

  7. Select the BackupSet from which file system data should be restored.

  8. If file system data needs to be restored for a specific date, choose the backups from the calendar.

  9. Select Recover from the latest backup and configuration to restore file system data from the latest backup automatically.

  10. Click Add to add exclusions to the recovery data. You can enter multiple custom paths seprated by commas.

  11. By default, the Clone machine option is disabled so that the 1-Touch recovery will be performed to the same AIX client machine.

To recover to a different AIX client machine, move the Clone Machine toggle to the right and provide the following inputs and click Next.

    • New client name and host name

    • IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS suffix

    • Multiple DNS server entries if needed.

  12. Select the Automatic client reboot check box for non-clone restores so that the 1-Touch recovery job will automatically reboot the AIX client.

  13. Choose the correct MediaAgent and Copy Precedence option to restore from a different copy of your backup.

  14. Click Submit.

Note

Verify that the AIX client is active to initiate the automatic client reboot. During clone restore, the 1-Touch recovery job completes after MKSYSB is restored to the NIM server, and you must manually boot the destination AIX client afterward.

What to Do Next

  • Monitor the job progress in Command Center.

  • For in-place restores, the client should reboot and complete OS recovery automatically.

  • For clone restores, manually boot the destination client.

  • File system restore (if selected) will start automatically after OS recovery.
