Performing a DB2 Log Backup

Use log backups in the following scenarios.

  • To restore the database to the most recent state after a database failure.

  • To restore specific logs, which are identified using a serial number or identification tag that are missing in the database.

  • To restore logs from a specific time range that were lost due to a hard disk corruption. Use a point-in-time archive log restore.

You can also configure an archive log subclient, or include the archive logs as part of an offline subclient.

Before You Begin

Back up the archive logs.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The database Overview tab appears.

  2. On the Databases tab, click the database.

    The Overview tab appears.

  3. On the Subclients tab, click the action button action_button for the subclient that you want to back up, and then click Back up.

    The Backup options dialog box appears.

  4. Under Backup level, select the type of backup operation:

    • Select Full to perform a full backup operation.
  5. Click Submit.

Result

The Job Details dialog box displays the following information:

  • The completion time. Use this when you want to perform a point-in-time restore.

  • The Log Serial Number (LSN) range. Use this when you want to restore a set of log files.
