Performing a Recall Operation for UNIX File Systems From the Terminal Window

Any application accessing (a read or write operation) the archived data triggers a recall operation.

Before You Begin

On your recall computer, verify that the File System Agent is installed, and that the driver for File Archiver is monitoring the volume where the stubs are located.

Procedure

1. Open a terminal or console window.

2. Perform an action that executes an open and read on an archived file to initiate the recovery operation.

   For example, you can use the vi or cat commands to do this:

    
   vi  path  filename

    
   cat  path  filename

3. You can track the progress of the job from the Job Controller window of the CommCell console.

   After the recovery operation, stubs are replaced by files in the specified location.
