Performing an Unplanned Failover for a Periodic Replication Group

You can perform an unplanned failover operation for an entire replication group to make the destination VMs active in an emergency situation. Only VMs that are eligible fail over. After a replication group failover, replication operations are disabled for the VMs that failed over. You can perform a replication group failback operation to return replication operations to all source sites in the replication group.

Before You Begin

Create a periodic replication group.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Secure > Auto recovery > Replication groups.

    The Replication groups page appears.

  2. Under Group name, click a replication group.

The Overview* tab of the replication group page appears.

  3. In the upper-right area of the page, click Failover, and then select Unplanned failover.

The Unplanned failover dialog box appears.

  4. For Azure and AWS VM pairs, select the Retain disk snapshots for undo failover operation check box to enable undo failover after failover operations.

  5. Click Yes.

Result

  • Source VMs are stopped.

  • Replication is disabled for the VMs that failed over.

  • The destination VMs are powered on.
