Requirements - Commvault Console

To successfully register your on‑premises CommCells and SaaS environment with the Commvault Console hybrid environment, they must meet network, access, and user identity requirements.

Once registered, the Commvault Console provides a single, unified view across both on‑premises and SaaS environments, enabling centralized monitoring, reporting, and management.

Commvault Requirements

The Commvault Console hybrid model requires Commvault 11.42 or later.

On-Premises CommCell Requirements

Network Requirements

You must enable secure communication between your on‑prem environment and Commvault Console for registration, monitoring, reporting, and ongoing operations.

Access to Commvault Console

Your on‑prem CommCell Commvault Console must be accessible to Commvault Console.

Commvault Console access enables the following:

  • CommCell registration

  • Data aggregation

  • Reporting and monitoring

Procedure

Do one of the following:

  • Deploy the Commvault Console in a DMZ.

  • Allowlist the Commvault Console API Gateway (provided during onboarding).

Outbound Connectivity to Commvault Console Hub Server

Your on‑prem web servers must allow outbound HTTPS connectivity to the Commvault Console Hub Server.

Outbound connectivity enables the following:

  • Hub communication

  • Blueprint health monitoring

  • Job status updates

Procedure

  • Allow outbound HTTPS (port 443) from your on‑prem web servers to the Commvault Console Hub Server.

On‑Prem CommCell Registration

On‑prem CommCell registration securely establishes trust between your CommCell and Commvault Console.

Procedure

  • Log in to the on‑prem CommCell Command Center as a CommCell Administrator.

SaaS Environment Registration

SaaS environment registration ensures proper authentication and seamless access to SaaS workloads from Commvault Console.

Procedure

  • Use the same email address that was originally used to register your SaaS account.

If a different account was used, use tenant administrator credentials to complete SaaS registration.

User Identity and Access Requirements

User identity and access ensure consistent access and visibility across Commvault Console, on‑prem, and SaaS environments.

User identity and access are required for users who need to perform the following actions:

  • View global dashboards

  • Aggregate data

  • Manage entities

Procedure

Ensure that the same email address or UPN exists in the following environments:

  • Commvault Console

  • On‑prem CommCell

  • SaaS environment

Identity Provider (SAML/Active Directory) Behavior

Identity provider behavior maintains consistent authentication and access control across all environments.

If SAML or Active Directory authentication is configured on the on‑prem CommCell:

  • Users are matched using email address or UPN.

  • If a Commvault Console user does not exist on the CommCell:

    • SAML/AD users are automatically created.

    • Local users are not automatically created.

Note

User groups created in Commvault Console are automatically synchronized to on‑prem CommCells.
