Restore guest files for Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization VM

You can restore individual files or directories from Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (RHOV) virtual machine (VM) backup without restoring the full VM.

Use this restore option when you need files that exist on the VM disk. If you only need application data that’s stored on a persistent volume claim (PVC), use the application-level file restore workflow instead.

Requirements
  • The destination VM must have the Commvault file system package installed.

  • If the destination VM does not have the Commvault package, you must have credentials to access it.

  • Configure the showK8sGuestVMFilesRestore additional setting. For information on configuring an additional setting, see Adding a CommCell Setting.

To restore guest files for RHOV VM, follow these steps:

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Kubernetes.

  2. On the Application groups tab, for the application group, click the action button, and then click Restore.

  3. Click Guest VM files.

  4. Click the VM name.

  5. To select a different MediaAgent, click Change source and then select the MediaAgent.

    Note

    • A Linux MediaAgent can browse both Linux and Windows VMs.

    • A Windows MediaAgent can browse only Windows VMs.

  6. Select the folders and files, and then click Restore.

  7. Choose where to restore the data. Use the following tabs to select the restore destination.

Restore the selected files to a destination machine that has Commvault file system package installed.

    3. To delete an existing file and replace it with the restored file, enable the Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists toggle key.

    4. To restore file permissions from the backup and apply them, select the ACLs check box.

    5. To restore files and folders with the default permissions for the destination path, select the Data check box.

Restore the selected files to another VM.

    1. From the Destination cluster list, select the cluster where destination VM resides.

    2. In Destination VM, browse to select the destination VM.

    3. From the Credential list, select existing credentials, or click the add button to create credentials.

    4. For Destination path, click Browse to select a destination folder.

    5. To delete an existing file and replace it with the restored file, enable the Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists toggle key.
