You can restore files and folders from a backup of an Amazon EC2 instance to a file system agent on an Amazon EC2 instance.
Prerequisites and Considerations
All Destination Instances
-
The user account that performs the restore must have permissions to create files in the specified location on the destination. By default, the local system account is used, but you can enter another set of credentials to perform the restore.
-
To restore files that have either a total size of 10 GiB or more than 10,000 files, on the destination instance, install the file system agent using the Restore only agent setting. For instructions, see Installing a Commvault agent as a "restore only agent".
-
If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.
Linux Destination Instances
-
The destination instance must have the Linux file system agent installed as either a full agent or a restore only agent (not with the File System Core package). For instructions to install a restore only agent, see Installing a Commvault agent as a "restore only agent".
Existing deployments using an Image Level Agent (deprecated) are also supported.
-
If the original user for a folder does not exist on the destination instance, files are restored with the user ID instead of the user name.
-
Symbolic links can be restored if the source files are also restored, but the symbolic links are restored with the timestamp of the restore operation instead of the original timestamp. If the source files are not restored, symbolic link files are restored, but without links. As a result, the linked data cannot be read.
-
Hard link files can be restored; if source files are also restored any corresponding link files use the same index node (inode).
Windows Destination Instances
-
The destination instance must run a 64-bit operating system.
-
The destination instance must have the Windows file system agent installed as either a full agent or a restore only agent (not with the File System Core package). For instructions to install a restore only agent, see Installing a Commvault agent as a "restore only agent".
-
The version of the file system agent that you install on the destination instance must be the same as the version of the Virtual Server Agent.
