Restoring Full HPE Morpheus VM Essentials Instances Out of Place

You can restore full HPE Morpheus VM Essentials instances to a different location (out of place).

Note

  • A restore operation may take a long time or fail during instance provisioning if the source image has the cloud-init flag enabled (default) but does not include cloud-init or cloudbase-init. To avoid this issue, disable the cloud-init flag on the image.

  • If a MAC address is hardcoded in the instance's network configuration and the MAC address changes during restore, the network interface might not come up in the restored instance.

Prerequisites

If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.

  2. On the Virtual machines tab, click the instance.

  3. In the Recovery points section, click Restore.

  2. Click Configure restore options, and then specify the following:

    • VM display name: Enter a name for the restored instance.

      Important

If an existing instance with the same name exists on the destination host and you do not select Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists (on the next page of the restore wizard), then the restore fails.

    • Cloud: Select a Morpheus cloud from the list.

    • Cluster: Based on the Morpheus cloud selected, select a HVM cluster.

    • Host: Select a host from the list.

    • Service plan: Select a service plan from the list to assign a custom CPU and memory profile to the restored virtual machine.

Restore Options Page

  1. Specify the settings:

    • Power on VMs after restore: Automatically start the instances after they are restored.

    • Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists: If an existing instance with the same name exists on the destination host, delete it and replace it with the restore instance.

      Important

If an existing instance with the same name exists on the destination host and you do not select Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists, then the restore fails.

    • Reuse existing VM client: Redirect the restored instance to the source instance. Enabling this setting applies all information (including instance name, instance ID, and host name) from the source instance to the restored instance.

    • Notify user on job completion: Send an email notification that the restore is complete.

    • Schedule restore job: To schedule the restore job at a specific interval for a period of time, enable this option, and then provide the schedule details.

    • Additional options:

      • Generate new GUID for VMs: Generate a new GUID for the restored instance.
