Tenant portability and migration

Tenant portability lets you migrate a tenant from a shared CommCell or SaaS ring to a dedicated or customer-managed environment when a customer exits the service or assumes ownership of their data.

For assistance with planning or initiating a migration, tenant users can contact Commvault Support or their Commvault account team.

How tenant migration works

The migration workflow uses a three-phase approach to minimize downtime and maintain data integrity during migration.

  • Pre-migration: Provision and validate the destination infrastructure while the source environment remains online.
  • Migration: Perform the CommServe database restore, repoint the tenant clients to the new CommCell environment, update network routes to direct traffic to the destination MediaAgents and proxies.
  • Post-migration: Validate backup and restore operations and remove other tenant configurations on the new CommServe environment.

Downtime occurs only during the migration phase. The source and destination rings remain operational during the pre and post migration phases.
