Test connectivity from Air Gap Protect servers to cloud storage

To test connectivity from the Commvault control plane or an access node to Air Gap Protect in other cloud storage, such as Azure Blob Storage, use the CloudTestTool utility. The utility can test connectivity for both commercial and government cloud environments.

Requirements

Start CloudTestTool

  1. Log on to the MediaAgent for the cloud storage or the Commvault control plane server.

  2. At the command prompt, enter the following:

    /opt/commvault/Base/CloudTestTool
    

    The CloudTestTool prompt appears:

    CloudTestTool, Version 11.0.0
     This program will perform simple cloud server tests for you
     Press <ENTER> to begin...
    
  3. Press Enter.

    The main menu appears:

    32. Test Connection for Air Gap Protect
    33. Test Connection
    0. Exit.
    Select [1]:
    
  1. Log on to the MediaAgent for the cloud storage or the Commvault control plane server.

  2. In the [software_installation_path]\Base folder, double-click CloudTestTool.exe.

    The CloudTestTool command prompt appears:

    CloudTestTool, Version 11.0.0
     This program will perform simple cloud server tests for you.
     Press <ENTER> to begin...
    
  3. Press Enter.

    The main menu appears:

    32. Test Connection for Air Gap Protect
    33. Test Connection
    0. Exit.
    Select [1]:
    

Test connectivity for commercial cloud storage

  1. At the main menu, enter 32 for Test Connection for Air Gap Protect.

  2. When prompted, enter 0 for Commercial Cloud.

  3. Enter the number for the cloud storage:

    Select Air Gap Protect for:
        1. Azure
        2. Amazon S3
        3. Oracle OCI
        4. Google GCP
        0. Return to the previous menu
    
  4. Follow the prompts to view the results.

    Example: Azure Commercial
        Select [1]: 1
        Please enter Azure storage account name if available, otherwise just press enter: appdatawestus
        Press '1' to test the connection or '0' to back to the previous menu [1]: 1

Test connectivity for government cloud

  1. At the main menu, enter 32 for Test Connection for Air Gap Protect.

  2. When prompted, enter 1 for GovCloud.

  3. Enter the number for the cloud storage:

    Select Air Gap Protect for:
        1. Azure
        2. Amazon S3
        3. Oracle OCI
        0. Return to the previous menu
    
  4. Follow the prompts to view the results.

    Example: Azure Government Cloud
    Select [1]: 1
    Please enter Azure storage account name if available, otherwise just press enter:
    Press '1' to test the connection or '0' to back to the previous menu [1]: 1

Test individual URL connectivity

  1. At the main menu, enter 33 for Test Connection.

    The following menu appears:

    Select URL option:
    1. Enter Azure storage account name
    2. https://www.commvault.com
    3. https://metallic.io
    4. https://api.mcss.metallic.io
    5. https://api.mcss.gov.metallic.io
    6. https://login.microsoftonline.com
    7. https://login.microsoftonline.us
    8. https://storage.googleapis.com
    9. https://s3.amazonaws.com
    10. https://objectstorage.us-phoenix-1.oraclecloud.com
    11. https://objectstorage.us-langley-1.oraclegovcloud.com
    12. Enter the URL (e.g., https://example.com)
    0. Return to the previous menu
    Select [1]:
    
  2. Enter the number for the URL.

    A successful connection message indicates that the system can reach the selected cloud or URL with proper certificate verification.

    If a test fails, verify the following:

    • Network access

    • DNS resolution

    • SSL certificate trust

    Example: Azure storage account
