Troubleshooting USB Drive Issues
If imaging via a USB drive fails due to media not mounting, check the following:
a. USB Creation Method – If creating USB drive using a Linux/HSX client, make sure to pause ransomware protection before executing the dd command.
b. Boot Mode – Verify that the node is in UEFI boot mode. Nodes in Legacy BIOS mode cannot be imaged using a USB drive.

Troubleshooting ISO Mounting via Remote Interface
If using an ISO mounted through a hardware vendor's remote interface, ensure the remote interface is set up as a dedicated port (iLO, IPMI, iDRAC, IRMC, CIMC) and not a shared port.

USB Drive Not Detected in BIOS
If the BIOS does not recognize the USB drive when attempting to boot:
-
Check the USB drive size. Some hardware vendors struggle to detect 16GB USB drives in the BIOS/pre-boot environment due to vendor limitations.
-
Try using an 8GB or 32GB USB drive — whichever size is sufficient to accommodate the ISO being used.
