In Commvault, shared resources are reusable configuration objects that you use for authentication, protection policies, storage, and infrastructure access, and you can use shared resources with multiple workloads and features. Understanding how shared resources work helps you standardize protection, simplify administration, and improve cyber resilience.
You can create shared resources when you onboard workloads. You can also create them directly, as documented in this section, and then select them for workloads.
| Resource type | Description | Purpose | Applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workload accounts and subscriptions | Connections to infrastructure platforms such as hypervisors and cloud providers | Enable workload discovery and centralized management across an environment | Virtualization and cloud workloads |
| Backup plans | Reusable protection policies that define schedules, retention, and storage | Standardize data protection and recovery objectives across workloads | Most workloads |
| Storage | Storage destinations for backup and recovery data Note: Storage is specified in backup plans |
Provide durable and scalable backup storage and support cyber recovery strategies | All protected workloads |
| Credentials | Secure authentication objects that store usernames, passwords, keys, or tokens | Enable reusable and centralized authentication for infrastructure and workloads | Most workloads |
| Access nodes | Systems that move data between workloads and storage | Offload data movement and improve scalability and performance | Workloads that use dedicated data movement infrastructure |
