Configure Salesforce Object and Metadata Settings for Restores

You can configure advanced indexing and metadata restore options for specific Salesforce objects. These configurations improve query performance during record-level browse and provide granular control over Salesforce automations during restore operations.

To configure indexed fields and metadata overrides for the objects, in the Configuration tab of your Salesforce app, use the Object configuration tile.

Custom Indexed Fields

To improve query performance and reduce timeout risk when filtering large datasets during record-level browse operations, you can specify custom fields to index.

  • You can select up to five custom fields to index per object. Reference fields and required system fields are indexed by default.

  • The indexed field list is fetched from your Salesforce environment. The list of fields available for browsing is based on the data captured in the backup database and can differ from the Salesforce environment.

    Important

    • Changes to indexed fields take effect only after the next incremental backup completes.

    • If the selected custom field contains a very large number of records in the Salesforce environment, subsequent backups and record-level browse operations might take longer.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Salesforce.

  2. Click the Salesforce app.

  3. On the Configuration tab, in the Object configuration tile, click Add object configuration.

  4. From the Object name dropdown, select an object.

  5. On the Fields tab, from the Indexed fields dropdown, select up to five fields.

  6. Click Save.

Granular Metadata

When restoring Salesforce records, the Commvault software temporarily disables Salesforce automations such as triggers and validation rules before it applies the restore, and then re-enables them after the restore completes.

Use the Metadata tab to define granular controls:

  • Metadata categories excluded from restore: Select the categories that you want to leave unchanged during restore. The available categories are Apex triggers, Duplicate rules, Flows, Lookup filters, Validation rules, and Workflows.

  • Granular overrides: Specify individual metadata item and define whether they should remain enabled or be disabled during restore. This is useful when you want to keep a critical rule active while excluding other rules of the same type.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Salesforce.

  2. Click the Salesforce app.

  3. On the Configuration tab, in the Object configuration tile, click Add object configuration.

  4. From the Object name dropdown, select an object.

  5. Go to the Metadata tab.

  6. Under Metadata categories excluded from restore, select the categories to exclude, and then click OK.

  7. To configure specific rules:

    1. Click Add Override.

    2. Select the Metadata type.

    3. Enter the name of the rule or trigger.

    4. For Restore behavior, select Keep enabled or Disable during restore.

  8. Click Save.
