A HyperScale X storage pool is a scale-out storage resource that combines multiple HyperScale X nodes into a single storage platform. In most deployments, the software automatically creates a storage pool during the HyperScale X installation process.
If storage pool creation fails during deployment, or if additional storage pools are required, you can create a storage pool manually. After the HyperScale X nodes are deployed and registered, a storage pool must be available to support data protection workloads, deduplication, and storage management operations.
When a stand-alone web server is used, the storage pool is not created automatically and must be created manually from the Command Center.
Use this procedure to create a HyperScale X storage pool from previously configured HyperScale X nodes.
Before You Begin
-
Verify that the HyperScale X nodes have been successfully deployed and configured as described in Setting Up the Network.
-
Verify that all nodes intended for the storage pool are registered and available in the CommCell environment.
-
Download and install the latest updates associated with the release before creating the HyperScale X storage pool.
-
If multiple instances of the MediaAgent software are installed on a node, only one instance can be used to configure a HyperScale X storage pool.
For information about multi-instance installations, see Multi-Instance Installations.
For example, if MA1 is installed in Instance001 and MA2 is installed in Instance002, you can create only one HyperScale X storage pool using either MA1 or MA2. Do not use the other MediaAgent instance on the same node to configure another HyperScale X storage pool.
Procedure
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Storage > HyperScale X.
The HyperScale X page appears.
-
Click Add.
The Add HyperScale page appears.
-
In the Name box, type a name for the Storage Pool.
-
From the Nodes list, select the names associated with the nodes that were configured.
-
Click Save.
Result
After the storage pool is created:
-
The storage pool appears under Storage Pools in the Command Center.
-
A global deduplication policy is automatically created and appears under Policies > Storage Policies.
-
The storage pool becomes available for creating storage policies and protecting workloads.
What To Do Next
After creating the storage pool, create a storage policy or storage policy copy and associate it with the global deduplication policy.
