The DataServer-IP (DSIP) feature is deprecated. For more information about the Obsolescence Policy, see Obsolescence Policy.
Effective Release
Commvault Platform Release 11.42 CU Pack 120
Effect of Deprecation
Starting with Commvault Platform Release 11.42 CU Pack 120, you can no longer create new DataServer-IP (DSIP) shares. Existing DSIP configurations remain supported and continue to function after upgrading to Commvault Platform Release 11.42 CU Pack 120.
Description of the Deprecated Feature
DataServer-IP enables you to share a local mount path with multiple MediaAgents. With this configuration:
- The mount paths are shared without the complexity of managing user credentials for each mount path.
- The mount paths are exported on demand for a data protection operation through the DataServer-IP to the shared MediaAgents and are removed when they are no longer required.
- Each shared MediaAgent uses its local storage for backups. During data read operations, such as restores and auxiliary copies, the data blocks are retrieved using the DataServer-IP.
Replacement
For new deployments, use the shared local disk storage configuration available in the Add Backup Location workflow. Instead of configuring a DataServer-IP, specify a CIFS or NFS shared path to share local disk storage with other MediaAgents in the Grid.
