To manage Service CommCell entities from the Global Command Center, enable Active Management for Service CommCells. Active Management is required for blueprint-based configuration, where you define a configuration once in the Global Command Center and synchronize it to multiple Service CommCells.
Only after Active Management is enabled for at least one Service CommCell does the Config blueprint option appear on the navigation pane, where you can manage and configure global entities. You can manage the following options for the global entities:
-
CommCell policies
-
Alerts
-
Server groups
-
Plans
-
Entity tags
-
Regions
-
Workflows
-
System
-
Security
Important
* You must enable Active Management only for Service CommCells that are running on Commvault software versions older than version SP38 CU5.
* On software version SP38 CU5 or later, Active Management is enabled by default after registering the Service CommCell.
* The Enable active management action is available from the Service CommCell listing page in Global mode.
Before You Begin
-
Upgrade the CommServe computer to Commvault Platform Release 2024 and later. For more information, see Upgrading the CommServe Computer.
-
You must be a member of the master user group on the Service CommCell.
-
Ensure that Health Check is selected for Cloud Metrics Reporting for each Service CommCell.
-
Verify that the Global Configuration Manager and Hub Service are installed and healthy. These components are required for Active Management and blueprints, but not for basic aggregation. For more information, see Setup for Global Command Center.
Important
Aggregation, monitoring, switching, and direct entity operations can continue to work even if Active Management is not enabled. Active Management requires the Global Configuration Manager and Hub Service configuration.
Procedure
-
Switch to the Global Command Center.
Confirm that the URL includes
mode=global. -
The Service CommCells page appears.
-
On the Service CommCells page, in the row for the applicable Service CommCell, in the Actions column, click More Actions
> Enable active management. The Enable active management dialog box appears.
-
Click Yes.
If Active Management cannot be enabled because the required configuration is missing or unreachable, fix the configuration and then use Retry enable active management from the Service CommCell row.
Troubleshooting
If the Enable active management action is not visible or Active Management remains in a pending state, verify the following:
-
You are in Global mode, and the URL includes
mode=global. -
The
bIsGlobalCommcellsetting is configured astrue. Note that the setting name contains an uppercase I inIs(bIsGlobalCommcell), not a lowercase i. -
The
globalConfigManagerBaseUrlsetting includes the correct Global Configuration Manager host, port5005, and a trailing slash. -
The
hubServiceBaseUrlsetting includes the correct Hub Service host or proxy host, port, and a trailing slash. -
The Service CommCell Web Servers can reach the Hub Service health URL. If you use a reverse proxy, validate the proxy URL because that is the URL sent to the Service CommCell.
-
You ran
IISRESETafter changing the Global Configuration Manager or Hub Service URL settings. -
After correcting the settings, click Retry enable active management so that the updated Hub Service URL is sent to the Service CommCell.
-
If you edited Service CommCell URLs from the Service CommCell details page after registration, confirm that the updated URLs are reachable before retrying Active Management.
If the connection fails, the Service CommCell retries the Hub Service connection automatically. If the issue continues, review WebServer.log on the Service CommCell Web Server and HubService.log on the Global CommCell.
