Enabling Storage Lock for a Commvault Flex Appliance Storage Pool

For VaultOS 8 deployment, WORM lock (Storage Lock) is not enabled by default and is not part of the Commvault Flex Appliance installation process.

In VaultOS 9 deployments, you can configure storage pools using one of the following options:

  • Existing bucket: Use an existing bucket with WORM lock enabled or disabled.
  • New bucket: Create a new bucket during installation and choose whether to enable WORM lock by selecting the appropriate option on the installation screen.

To use WORM or Storage Lock:

  • Enable WORM lock is supported for the following storage arrays:

    • In VaultOS 9 deployment:

      • Pure Storage FlashBlade
      • NetApp StorageGRID
      • VAST Data Platform
      • HPE MP X10000
      • Hitachi VSP One Object Storage
    • In VaultOS 8 deployment:

      • Pure Storage FlashBlade
      • VAST Data Platform

Enable WORM lock for the required tenants on the VAST array. For Pure storage, enable WORM lock at the bucket level for the buckets used by Commvault Flex Appliance storage pools. Refer to the vendor specific documentation for more information.

  • If you use an existing bucket with WORM lock enabled, enable the Storage Lock option in the CommCell environment after the deployment is complete.

In the Commvault Command Center, go to Manage > Storage > Cloud > Commvault Flex Appliance Storage Pool > Configuration. For more information, see Configuring Storage Lock.

If you deploy a VaultOS 9-based Commvault Flex storage pool and create a new bucket with WORM lock enabled during deployment, the Storage Lock option is automatically enabled in the CommCell environment.

To verify the setting, in the Commvault Command Center, go to Manage > Storage > Cloud > Commvault Flex Appliance Storage Pool > Configuration.

Enabling Storage Lock allows Commvault to honor the WORM configuration on the bucket, making the stored data immutable for the configured retention period.

After Object Lock (WORM) is enabled, the following restrictions apply:

  • Data cannot be modified, deleted, or overwritten until the configured retention period expires.
  • The configured retention period cannot be reduced after it has been committed.
  • Locked data cannot be modified or deleted, including by administrators.
  • Storage occupied by locked data cannot be reclaimed until the retention period expires.
