You can restore guest files and folders from an OpenStack instance or image backup.
Considerations
To browse a Linux VM, you must use a Linux access node.
Note
By default, when you restore guest files from a backup of an OpenStack instance, Commvault selects the access node for the operation. To specify an access node, use the Preferred node for guest file restores setting in the OpenStack instance configuration. The selected access node is used for all guest file restore operations for that instance.
Prerequisites
- If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.
Procedure
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.
-
Click the VM groups tab.
-
In the row for the VM group, click the action button
, and then click Restore. -
Select Guest files and folders.
-
To select a specific MediaAgent and source for the restore, in the upper-right area of the page, click Settings.
By default, the software selects resources as follows:
-
MediaAgent: Uses the MediaAgent that performed the backup.
-
Source: Searches for the requested data in the primary copy. If the data is not found in the primary copy, the software selects a secondary or auxiliary copy.
For more information, see MediaAgent and Copy Precedence Considerations for Virtualization Restores.
-
Select the objects to restore, and then click Restore.
-
In the Restore options dialog box, specify the following:
-
Restore ACLs: Select one of the following options:
-
Restore ACLs Only: Restores permissions from the backup and applies them to the files specified for the restore.
-
Restore Data Only: Restores files and folders with the default permissions for the destination path.
-
Restore Both Data and ACLs: Restores files and folders while preserving source file and folder permissions.
-
-
Unconditional Overwrite: Select this check box to overwrite source files or folders with the same names.
- Restore via CV tools: Select this option to restore files directly to the destination VM when the hypervisor doesn't support guest file restore or provides limited guest file restore capabilities. For more information, see Agentless file restore.
The important part is the fragment:
