Unified Data Vault

Note

The prerequisite for this feature is version 11.42 or higher.

Introduction

Unified Data Vault (UDV) is Commvault's agentless, S3-compatible ingestion service delivered as part of Air Gap Protect (AGP) SaaS and HyperScale on-premises. It enables enterprises and MSPs to ingest any S3-native or S3-exported workload—Snowflake, CockroachDB, monday.com, custom applications—directly into Commvault-managed immutable storage.

Applications connect to an S3 reverse proxy that distributes requests across backend S3 endpoints on MediaAgents. Replace existing S3 buckets with no code changes—simply point your application to the reverse proxy endpoint URL.

By combining UDV's simple ingest model with AGP's retention, immutability, and telemetry, Commvault delivers a unified, cost-competitive alternative to public-cloud S3 storage for secure, air-gapped protection.

Key Benefits

  • Agentless backup:
Perform install-free backups or integrate with native backup tools and custom backup and recovery scripts.

  • Storage agnostic:
Supports all storage types available in the Commvault backend, including Air Gap Protect and HyperScale X.

  • Secure and immutable:
Provides encrypted, air-gapped, and immutable storage for cyber resiliency.

  • Optimized storage:
Uses deduplication and compression to reduce storage requirements.

  • Multi-copy and multi-cloud:
Create copies on-premises or in the cloud, including across different cloud vendors.
