Commvault Hardware Requirements for Disaster Recovery

For small and medium environments, deploy the Commvault software either in an all-in-one configuration or in a distributed configuration. For hardware requirements for large and extra large environments, refer to the component sizing topics.

All-in-One Configuration

Install all Commvault components, including the CommServe software, Web Server, Web Console, Workflow Engine, MediaAgent, and access nodes (VSA proxies), on a single computer. This configuration supports a combination of up to 25 servers or 250 virtual machines.

  • 8 CPU cores

  • 32 GB RAM

  • 2 TB of working space for the CommServe database, deduplication database (DDB), index, and job results (SSD disk is recommended)

Distributed Configuration (Server and Storage)

Install server and storage components on two or more computers. This configuration supports a combination of up to 100 servers or 1000 virtual machines.

Computer 1 with CommServe, Web Server, Web Console, Workflow Engine installed

  • 8 CPU cores

  • 32 GB RAM

  • 500 GB for SQL Server database (SSD disk is recommended)

Computer 2 with MediaAgent and Access Nodes installed

  • 8 CPU cores

  • 16 GB RAM

  • 1.5 TB of working space for DDB, index, and job results (SSD disk is recommended)

  • To scale horizontally, you can deploy several access nodes. The access nodes are co-located with the data, either on-premises or in the cloud.
