You can use the Commvault Plug-In for VMware Cloud Director to back up virtual machines.
Note
To back up an unprotected virtual machine, you must verify that the virtual machine has an associated server backup plan. If it does not, you must associate a plan to the VM. For more information, see Modifying Server Backup Plan Using the Plug-In for VMware Cloud Director.
Procedure

In VMware Cloud Director, click the More menu icon, and then select the plug-in option, Commvault Data Protection.
If you are using an older version of VMware Cloud Director (versions 9.5 - 10.0), click the Cloud Resources menu icon, and then select the plug-in option, Commvault Data Protection.
The Virtual Machines tab appears.

On the VM Protection tab, select the virtual machine to back up, and then click Back Up Now.
A Backup confirmation window appears.

Click Back Up.
