Guided Setup for Azure Stack HCI

The Virtualization guided setup guides you through creating a server plan, adding a hypervisor, and adding a VM group.

Before You Begin

  • Complete the Core Setup Wizard.

  • Review the information in Azure Stack HCI: System Requirements.

    The hypervisor can be an Azure Stack HCI cluster, or an Azure Stack HCI server in a cluster.

  • Identify one or more nodes on which you will install the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) to create access nodes (VSA proxies) for backup and restore operations. To discover Azure Stack HCI servers, the CommServe system must have the VSA installed.

    At least one machine must have the VSA installed. For more information, see VSA Proxies and File Recovery Enablers for Linux.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Guided setup.

  2. On the Protect tab, click the Virtualization tile.

  3. On the Create server backup plan page, type a name for the plan, then provide information about storage, retention, and backup schedules. For more information, see Creating a Server Plan.

    If you configured a server backup plan as part of the Core Setup, the wizard skips this page.

  4. Click Save.

    The Add hypervisor page appears.

  5. Provide the following information:

    1. Select vendor: Select Hyper-V.

      Note

      Azure Stack HCI is a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) cluster solution built on their Hyper-V technology. At this time, to add an Azure Stack HCI hypervisor to the Command Center, you must select Hyper-V as the vendor.

    2. Hypervisor name: Enter a descriptive name for the hypervisor.

    3. Enter host or account information:

      • Hostname / IP address: Provide a fully qualified hostname or IP address for the hypervisor.

      • Username and Password: Enter the user credentials to provide administrative access to the hypervisor.

    4. For an Azure Stack HCI server, click Discover nodes. When the Nodes field is populated, select one or more nodes on which to install the Virtual Server Agent.

      Note

      You can continue the setup process while the VSA is being installed on Azure Stack HCI nodes, but you cannot perform backups until that installation is complete.

  6. Click Save.

  7. On the Add VM group page, type a descriptive name to identify the VM group, and then select virtual machines to be protected.

  8. Click Save.

  9. To finish, choose one of the following options:

    • Click Back up Now to perform an immediate backup of the virtual machines in the VM group (without requiring confirmation).

      The Job details page appears and displays job status information.

    • Click Do it later to go to the hypervisor page without performing a backup.

      Note

      For Azure Stack HCI, the Back up now option might not be available immediately. You can go to the hypervisor page. When VSA installation on proxies is complete, perform a backup.
