Searching Messages Using Exchange Mailbox

You can search archived messages.

You can search through archived mailboxes for messages based on their metadata, such as mailbox name, Subject, From, To, received time, and so on. Data that is excluded by filtering does not appear in the search results.

Before You Begin

To search email messages by using an exact keyword, you must enable exact keyword matching. For more information, see Creating an Exchange Archiving Plan.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Applications > Exchange.

    The Exchange page appears.

  2. Click the Exchange client that contains the mailbox that you want to search.

    The Exchange client page appears.

  3. On the Mailboxes tab, click the check box for the mailbox, and then click Restore > Restore messages.

    The Backup content appears.

  4. Click the Search box, and then enter the search terms.

    More search capabilities appear.

  5. To search for email messages by exact keyword matching, enter dq: in the search box, followed by the search term.

  6. Click Search.

    The results appear in the search results list.

  7. To restore all messages matching the search criteria, including all items on multiple pages, do the following:

    1. In the upper-left corner of the search results list, select the check box to select all search results.

    2. Click Restore > Items across all pages.
