Best Practices for Amazon S3

Logging During Backups

Backups might take longer if you enable S3 bucket logging. To improve backup performance, we recommend you to disable logging or to redirect the logging to another bucket in a user-defined subclient.

The default subclient includes all buckets present in the Amazon S3 storage account. When you redirect the logs to another bucket in the same Amazon S3 storage account and run a backup on the default subclient, the logs in the destination S3 bucket are also backed up, resulting in slow backup performance. Similarly, if you run a backup from the instance level, the default subclient is also backed up along with other user-defined subclients causing the backups to take longer.
