Configure the Commvault VTL 2.0 as an Emulated Tape Library

Configure the Commvault VTL 2.0 as an emulated tape library, using a MediaAgent.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure that the virtual tape library (VTL) is zoned appropriately and visible to MediaAgent from the operating system.

  • When accessing the virtual devices from Windows MediaAgents, ensure that the tape drivers and the medium changer devices (optional) are installed. Perform the following checks in the Device Manager after connecting to the devices over Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and so on.

    • Tape drives must be listed under Tape Devices and not as Other Devices. If listed under Other Devices then the driver for the model emulated is missing. The tape driver can be obtained from the vendor or the vendor website.

    • Medium changer (library arm) will be listed under Medium Changer Devices as an Unknown Medium Changer. This is alright with most backup applications including Commvault software.
