You can configure a port-forwarding gateway to connect to the CommServe computer through one or multiple Commvault proxies.
Before You Begin
The Commvault network gateway, or network gateways, must be configured. For more information, see Setting Up the Commvault Network Gateway.
Procedures
Single Proxy
-
From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe computer and then click Properties.
The CommCell Properties dialog box appears.
-
On the Network Route Configuration tab, click the Options subtab.
-
Select the Access GUI Server (EvMgrS) via following proxy check box. This option automatically enables port 8401 for third-party connections.
-
From the Remote Proxy list, select the client computer that will act as a proxy.
-
In the Port Number box, specify a port to be used by the proxy to access the CommServe computer. This is a local port in the proxy that will be mapped to port 8401.
-
Click OK.
-
In the CommCell Browser, do the following
-
Right-click the proxy client computer, and then click All Tasks > Push Network Configuration.
-
Right-click the CommServe computer, and then click All Tasks > Push Network Configuration.
Verify that your network configuration was pushed successfully by looking for a network push event in the Event Viewer.
-
-
If the CommCell Console is not yet installed, install the CommCell Console on the computer hosting the IIS. For more information, see Installing the CommCell Console.
Multiply Proxies
Configure multiple proxies to set up high availability among your proxies. When proxies are not available, the request is sent to the other available proxies.
Tip
If you want to configure load balancing, you can set up a third-party load balancer to forward requests to other available proxies. You can also choose to configure a global proxy host name to forward the requests.
-
Run the ConfigureThirdPartyConnections workflow on each proxy that you want to configure. For more information, see Configuring Port-Forwarding Between Client Computers.
When you run the workflow, provide the following information:
-
Source client: The client that acts as the network proxy.
-
Source port: Local port in the proxy computer. You can specify port 8401 or any other port of your choice.
Note
Record the port number used. You will use it to connect to the CommCell Console in "What to Do Next", below.
-
Destination client: The CommServe computer.
-
Destination port: 8401
-
Optional Configurations
-
To configure the CommCell Console log on screen to automatically populate the proxy name and port number, see Populating Proxy Information During Log On.
-
To configure the proxy to listen to a port other than 8401, update the entries in the oem.properties file as follows (Note: The oem.properties file is a user configuration file. Do not modify the galaxy.jnlp file settings because they can be lost during an upgrade):
oem.properties id=OemID consoleServer=cshost consoleProxyHostName=%consoleProxyHostName% consoleProxyPort=%consoleProxyPort%
Where:
-
OemID is the Oem identification number
-
cshost is the hostname or IP address of the CommServe computer
-
consoleProxyHostName is the hostname or IP address of the proxy computer
-
consoleProxyPort is the port number used by the proxy to communicate with the CommServe computer
-
What to Do Next
Connect to the CommServe computer through a firewall as follows:
-
Open the CommCell Console, select the Connect through firewall check box, click Configure, and then enter the following information:
-
The proxy host name or IP address of the remote proxy
-
The proxy port number (source port number that you entered while configuring the port-forwarding gateway)
For information on opening the CommCell Console, see Opening the CommCell Console.
