Configuring Storage for the Dell EMC VNX / CLARiiON Storage Array

To provision storage for the storage array, use the array software.

For detailed information, read the EMC white paper Dell EMC VNX / CLARiiON SnapView / VNX Snap EMC ClARiiON SnapView Snapshots and Snap Sessions KnowledgebookSnap, which explains how to configure storage Dell EMC VNX / CLARiiON.

Procedure

  1. Create a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) group.

  2. Create a storage group.

  3. If necessary, register the client computer or the host on the array software:

    • If you installed the Navisphere Host Agent or Unisphere Host Agent on the client computer, then you do not need to register the client computer or the host because the software automatically registered it.

    • If you did not install the Navisphere Host Agent or Unisphere Host Agent, then you must register the client computer or the host on the array software.

  4. Create the LUNs.

  5. Map the LUNs to the client computer where the Navisphere Host Agent or the Unisphere Host Agent is installed.

  6. Add the client computer or the host and the LUNs to the storage group.

  7. Choose the appropriate method for configuring your environment:

    • If you use the Dell EMC VNX / CLARiiON SnapView / VNX Snap engine, then reserve the adequate number of reserved LUNs.

    • If you use the Dell EMC VNX / CLARiiON SnapView Clone engine, then configure the clone target LUNs to have the same size as the source LUNs and do not put any clone target LUN in any storage group.

    • If you use VNX snapshots, then verify that the source LUNs are pool LUNs and that space is available on the storage pool.
