Creating a Data Loss Prevention Passkey

To access locked files without connecting to the Commvault environment, create a Data Loss Prevention (DLP) passkey before you use DLP to secure files on your laptop. The DLP passkey is used to authorize access to locked files on your laptop. When a laptop is reported missing, entering the passkey of an authorized user is the only way to open and read the contents of a locked file.

Important

If you forget your passkey, it might be impossible to recover data in locked file, even by an authorized user. Select a secure passkey that you can easily remember.

Procedure

  1. Do one of the following:

    • On Windows laptops, open Edge Monitor, and in the DLP section, click Configure.

    • On Macintosh laptops, click the Edge Monitor icon, and then click Data Loss Prevention.

  2. Follow the instructions on the prompt to create a secure passkey.

  3. Click OK.
