Disabling Quiescing for VMware

By default, quiescing is enabled for VMware backups. Quiescing pauses or alters the state of running processes on a computer, especially those that might modify information stored on disk during a backup. Quiescing the operating system and applications helps to guarantee a consistent and usable backup that includes pending transactions.

Procedure

To disable quiescing before performing backups:

  1. From the CommCell Console, navigate to Client Computers > virtualization_client > Virtual Server > VMware > backup_set.

  2. Right-click a subclient and click Properties.

  3. Click the Backup Options tab.

  4. Under Virtual Machine Backup Type, select Crash Consistent.

  5. Click OK.

When you perform the backup of the subclient, quiescing will not be performed on the virtual machines in the subclient.
