Enabling Native Driver Communication to Tape Devices

To communicate with the tape devices, you can use the pass-through driver provided by the MediaAgent, or the native drivers provided by the operating system. When this option is selected the native driver is used. This option is supported by all UNIX MediaAgents. By default, this option is enabled on all Unix MediaAgents. Disable this option, if you do not want to use the native drivers.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources | MediaAgent.

  2. Right click the appropriate MediaAgent, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Control tab.

  4. Select the Use Native device driver for data transfer for tape media option to enable native driver to communicate with tape devices.

  5. For AIX MediaAgents, select the Send pass-through commands to Atape on AIX option to enable the MediaAgent to send pass-through commands to Atape device drivers.

  6. When using pass-through on Linux MediaAgent, select the Device access using pass-through driver on Linux option to allow device node access to the tape drive exclusively to the Commvault processes. This will ensure no other process can access the tape device while Commvault processes have the device node open.
