Getting Started With Snapshot Copies

To create a copy of the metadata associated with a snapshot backup, create a snapshot copy.

Before You Begin

Use a disk library for the snapshot copy target. For more information about disk libraries, see Disk Libraries.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, go to Policies > Storage Policies > Storage Policy.

  2. Right-click the storage policy and then go to All Tasks > Create New Snaphot Copy.

    The Create New Snapshot Copy- Copy Details page appears.

  3. Optional: In the Copy Name box, type a name for the copy.

  4. From the Library list, select the a library that must be used for the copy.

  5. From the MediaAgent list, select the MediaAgent that must be used for the copy.

  6. Click Next.

    The Create New Snapshot Copy - Retention Rules page appears.

  7. Select one of the following Retention options:

    • Infinite: If you plan to retain the data in the copy for an infinite amount of time.

    • Retain by n jobs: If you plan to retain data in the copy based on a specific number of jobs.

      Note

      Data restorability is not guaranteed for database agents with job based retention.

    • Retain for n days n cycles: If you plan to retain the data in the copy for a specific length of retention period and number of retention cycles. (Retention cycles will not apply to agents that do not have cycles).

  8. Click Finish.

What to Do Next

  • Run a backup copy operation to copy the snapshot data to the selected media. See more information on Backup Copy for IntelliSnap Backup.

  • You can configure snapshot copy as a spool copy (copy with no retention rules) to automatically delete the snapshots after the backup copy operation is complete. To configure the snapshot copy as spool copy, see Enabling Spool Copy.
