You can perform a Vault/Mirror copy for VMware agent to copy snapshots from primary copy to secondary copy.
Before You Begin
Verify whether you meet the following requirements:
-
To use the NetApp SnapVault/SnapMirror feature, verify the following:
-
You must have the NetApp Snap Management license.
-
Set up the SnapVault/Snap Mirror protection type. For details about the setup, see Create Storage Policy And Snapshot Copy for SnapVault or SnapMirror.
-
-
To replicate snapshots with the NetApp Open Replication feature, you need a storage policy that contains a vault/replica or mirror copy. For more information, see Configuration of the NetApp Open Replication Feature.
Procedure
-
From the CommCell Console, expand Policies > Storage Policies.
-
Right-click the storage policy and click All Tasks > Run Auxiliary Copy.
The Auxiliary Copy Job Options dialog box appears.
-
On the General tab, choose how you want to copy the data.
For more information about general auxiliary copy job options, see General.
-
On the Job Initiation tab, define whether the backup job runs immediately or if it will be scheduled.
-
Click OK.
When the Vault or Mirror copy of the snapshot is created, you cannot re-copy the same snapshot to the Vault or Mirror destination.
Result
- You can track the progress of the job from the Job Controller. When the auxiliary copy operation is complete, the snapshots will be accessible from the secondary snapshot copies.
The following scenarios are only applicable if the auxiliary copy job fails using open replication:
For the primary copy, if... |
Status of IntelliSnap jobs on the secondary snapshot is displayed as... |
---|---|
Open replication fails |
Partial |
Open replication fails after the retry count and retry time limit |
Available with missing snaps Note By default, the auxiliary copy operation attempts 10 times and five days to copy snapshots from the primary copy. If the operation continues to fail even after all attempts, corresponding snapshots will not be copied to the destination and the status of IntelliSnap jobs on the secondary snapshot copy is marked as Available with missing snaps. To change the default retry attempts and the default retry interval, configure the following Media Management Auxiliary Copy Parameters: |
Note
If you enabled the Ignore Completed With Errors job option for Extended Retention calculations parameter, then the jobs with the Available with missing snaps status will be considered as completed and will be aged based on the extended retention rules.
To view whether the snapshot is copied or not, see Viewing Snapshot Details.
