Install the Commvault VTL 2.0 Software

Use the following procedure for a new installation of the Commvault VTL 2.0 software on the VTL host. To upgrade the existing version of the Commvault VTL 2.0 software, see Upgrading the Commvault VTL 2.0 Software.

Procedure

  1. Login to the VTL host as root.

  2. Download the Commvault VTL 2.0 package from Commvault Store.

  3. Install the package using the following command:

    # rpm -ivh commvault-vtl-xxx.rpm
    • To install to an FIPS Security Mode-enabled host, Commvault VTL 2.0 version 3.0.50.55 and later is required.

      Install using the following command:

      # rpm -ivh --nodigest --nofiledigest commvault-vtl-xxx.rpm
  4. Reboot the system. (The reboot is required to load the new FC driver if LUNs are accessed using the FC interface.)

By default Commvault VTL 2.0 services are automatically started during system startup. (If you would like to disable the services from starting automatically, see Managing Commvault VTL 2.0 Services.)

  5. Secure iSCSI device access, even if you do not plan to use iSCSI protocol for accessing the virtual devices.

    Note

For security purposes, it is recommended that iSCSI device access credentials using CHAP is defined by default, as soon as the VTL software is installed.

  6. Add Non-Root Users to the VTL Group to monitor daemons running as non-root user.
